Welcome to B:bob:B! As of now I don’t think there is such an option available in B  B!

We have talked about implementing this type of feature. It’s a great idea. Unfortunately, our underpaid and overworked development team hasn’t had the bandwidth to develop such a feature.

thx for u r reply guys!!
if possible please include the feature so that there will be clarity that the topic was closed with the end reply

We had a discussion on this a while back. We have a feature already in place called “topic points” which we feel is more valuable. If only people would use it. Closed topics are not always useful. Some open topics (such as our FAQ topics) are (or should be) more useful. When you search, you can request that topics with points (meaning those that were found to be more valuable by the community) are displayed first.

Note that “points” in this context is completely different from the way points are used / assigned on SCN. Some more information about topic points (and favorites, another often overlooked feature) can be found in this post.

Dave / Michael,

Original Title’s:

a) How to call a global variable into a procedure?
b) viewing xcelsius swf in blackberry ?

I just picked the above two topics by using “Recent topics (All Forums)” option from BOB.

If a topic has a solution and the requester(or a BOB member) posts back saying that a solution from the topic worked, then the topic Title can be changed to something similar to the following by using a Prefix (Solved or Resolved or any other suitable words). This will ring the bell for any BOB member who is searching for a solution using a specific term or error.

A Moderator can decide whether a solution exists in the thread then s/he can change the Title as follows:

[Solved]: How to call a global variable in to a procedure?

[Resolved] : viewing xcelsius swf in blackberry ?

This Prefix will indicate that the issue is resolved and someone who is interested in the solution relevant to his search term will go through the topic to learn the solution quickly instead of searching the topics one by one.

Do you think this idea will assist a little ?

Title text is currently limited to 60 characters. The topic “labels” that we have enabled in some forums (such as the user group area) are stored separately and therefore don’t take up space. We’re anticipating implementing the topic labels for all forums to allow folks to differentiate between versions. But that’s a different question.

To be honest, implementing a “solved” button is trivial, and we’ll do it if there is enough interest. However, less than 2% of topics currently have any points assigned, so that feature is not being well used. It’s my expectation that a large number of solved topics would go unmarked, and that would reduce the value of those topics even though they contain valuable information.

bump

Is there substantial interest in this concept? If so, would someone like to take a stab at designing it? Questions such as…

Who would have the authority to mark a topic as answered?
Can the mark be undone (marked unanswered)?
What happens to the flag when a topic is split? merged?
Can a topic be marked answered even if it doesn’t have replies? (We had a problem with the point feature where people would give their question a point even when nothing was resolved, just to try to get more attention to their question…)
Who will go through our existing topics and decide which are answered so they don’t get lost?
Can new information be added to a topic that is already marked answered, or does it get closed (locked)?

There are probably more questions too. You can see that a simple suggestion like this can easily take on a life of its own. Technically speaking, adding a “topic status” field to the topic table, and adding it as an option for search, neither of those options takes too long. It’s all of the design and usability discussion that is required first that takes the time.

 The person who posts the question or the moderate will have right to mark it whether it is an correct answer or not by marking resolved option.
if u want to add new replies and suggestion it can also be done
there is no restriction to avoid posts

if u start to do u will think to do

Dave, I think its definetly worth discussing & something that should be escaleted to full discusion between You, the Moderators, highly involved members. Off top my head, here’s what came up, buut your right there is so much more to be thought of;

Obvioulsy the moderators can handle it (& for answers in areas they are uncertain of, it should be brought to full scale discusion or “a maybe answer”). A problem with letting just members mark it answered is that many people get their answers & go off happy but never take the time to say that did it etc… so what if many answered threads go un-acknolwedged by the questinee

Another tricky one, a thing may work in one release but does not, or has lost functionality in a later release.

NO. Unless ofcourse the only post is from the original author posting the solution

 Volunteers who else (peer review by comitee would be best)

No information should not be added. Too often people bring up something from 2005 functionality that is still there but achieved differently, hence a new post is more appropriate.

I’ll think of more things. Where is everyone else? :stuck_out_tongue:
