We are currently on 5.1.7 and are working on an upgrade to XI R2.
We use an unsupported architecture for web delivery of our reports today. We have a separate server that has the underpinnings of BO on it, but there is no repository attached to the environment.
We store a copy of all universes and reports that are to be delivered in folders on that server, then use Java and the SDK to login to the server and refresh the report. The Java apps often supply prompt values to the report, and the results are returned to the calling browser. Since the app makes the call and returns the results, the individual users do not have to be defined within BO (hence no need for the repository).
Does anyone have any idea if this will be possible in R2, or if it is even something we’d want to pursue (i.e. is the same functionality available via R2?).
While none of my business, I’m curious how your BO licensing works under your current model. I digress though …
Can you refresh reports through a browser in XIr2? The answer is yes. The part about your Java app sometimes passing prompts might be a concern. In any case a user would need an ID in XIr2 though.
We are fully licensed for the BO that is on that server (like many large companies were are a bit over-licensed for our actual usage).
Our BO support folks knew we were running this one server in this mode (which was, of course, an unsupported configuration due to the lack of a repository).
Thanks for the reply. I’m struggling a bit with whether R2 can offer anything like this (web delivery of reports, that are refreshed with passed prompts, without the users being identified in the BO repository).
I know we can do this with our Crystal Enterprise system but this system will not be connected to the upgraded BO system, nor do we want it to be.
Hopefully the collective genius of all the Bobbers and BO / Crystal geeks at the conference will shed some light on this for me.
Thanks!
Mary
