scheduling for 31st of month in XIR2

I’m relatively new to scheduling reports, and can’t seem to find this answer anywhere.

If I schedule a report to run on the 31st of each month, on what day does it run for those months that don’t have 31 days?

Does it run on the last day of the month? Or something else?

Many thanks,
Allyson

If a month does not have 31st day then it will not run the report. If you want to pre-select certain dates for this report to run each month then you have to use Calendars in CMC. Create a Calendar, In that select the date(s) for each month that you want this report to run. While scheduling in Infoview you have to select the Calendar that you created in CMC and create a recurring schedule, then the report will run on the date(s) you selected and it will run automatically without manual intervention.

I believe it can also be acheive with help of dates events in CMC. We can create an event for last day of the month or 10th Business Day, etc which can be used for other reports as well.

Just a thought… as I’ve had almost identical requests in my past two companies from senior management, and the real answer has ended up being “You do NOT want your report on the 31st.”.

The simple reason in my cases (yours may be different), is that on the 31st, business is not complete for that day, and therefore the data is not a full month.

What the users REALLY wanted was to come in on the 1st and have a previous months total report. They thought by telling me to run it on the 31st was ‘good enough’, not realizing that it involved a lot of extra work (such as the calendar table mentioned) and it would not be complete.

Our solution was simple… we scheduled the report to run on the 1st of each month at around 3am (when nightly maintenance was over) but made sure the parameters of the report only pulled in data through the end of the day on the last day of the month. (Which is very easy to do just by comparing whatever date = monthnumber, etc…).

That solved both issues of timing and data integrity.

Your case might be different, of course, but I’ve never seen a report that someone needed on the last day of the month when it might not contain full data.

Many thanks for your responses.

Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the CMC (we use an applicant tracking system, Taleo, and XIR2 is their provided reporting tool.) But I have a request in for their tech support to create a calendar for me, if possible.

And, in fact, we are safe to run our reports on the last day of the quarter (in the evening) because the stuff I’m reporting on only occurs between8 am -5 pm. So as long as I run the reports after 5, it’s okay. But, having said that, if they can’t create a calendar for me, I may look into the month number thing as a possible solution instead.

Thanks for the help, and the ideas!
