Hi gurus, here’s a quick question. Here’s where I am stuck…I wanted to build some kind of form which is used for forecasting reporting using Xcelsius.
To be more clear … I have many text boxes and some cool graph components displayed in my xcelsius model. So, the User can enter whatever values he want into those different text boxes and click Calculate … then all the graph components change according to those values he entered. (Used for what if analysis…kind of forecasting)
But the problem is: I am exporting that Xcelsius to a .PDF file and sending it to users. They can change the values in the PDF and get the graphs etc, but when they are trying to save it…it says you need Adobe Professional to save typed data? I have seen this before…but Is there any other way to do what i am trying to do ?
I am assuming your users have PDF Reader? (The free software).
If that’s the case, then No there is no way to do this. The PDF reader software allows read-only on PDF documents. You are not allowed to make any changes to the document at all. That type-info message really should state something like “You need Adobe Professional in order to make changes to this document”.
HOWEVER… does it have to be PDF? I wonder if you could export in a PowerPoint slide and retain the full functionality?
Powerpoint doesn’t require that license issue, and most companies already use office, and if not… OpenOffice is free and should also be able to view the Powerpoint slide natively.
EDIT: Spoke too soon… it appears that there are various 3rd party PDF viewers that allow editing… one of which appears free as well…
Check out: http://www.visagesoft.com/products/pdfreader/ I don’t know if that will work in your situation as you’ll need to deploy a new PDF reader other than Adobe’s… but it might let you save your values.
