SAP RapidMarts 4.0 and Use of Extractors

Hello,

I understand that new RMs from version 4.0 onwards will use BW extractors.

What about existing RMs?
Will they keep their extracts the way they have been designed originally (typically, ABAP)?
Will some of these extracts be selectively rewritten as needs arise (e.g. major performance improvements to incrementally extract GL data)?

Thanks,
Ned

Nope, that’s not my knowledge. RapidMarts will continue reading the SAP tables and not use Extractors as these do not return all the data.

… although, as per SalH in a separate thread:
“the new Fixed Asset RapidMart employs the use of ECC Extractors”

So, this means that there will be no single approach but this will depend on the extracts needs and options?

The decision on what technology to use will most likely be a Case-by-Case basis.

I don’t believe there are plans to re-work prior RM content to use Extractors.

Extractors, do however, provide a very desirable option for RM Product Developers in developing new content - so it will be taken into consideration going forward I would imagine.

As far as the GL RM’s (Ledger, Financial Doc, Cost Trans) these are amongst the first to get performance boost right out of the box. We have been able to get very grainular on deltas on the Rapid Marts - at one client site we run the RM extract 3 times a day - including all FI/CO content
