SAP Licensing

Hi all

Just a quick question to all in the Business Objects Community. (if I’m allowed)

Have any of you had any issues with SAP on licensing Business Objects products? I’m particularly interested to hear from people who were customers of Business Objects prior to their acquisition by SAP or have tried to change their licensing regime from named user to concurrent licensing.

Thanks in advance

Not aware of any problems, what are you facing?

Hi Mark

We have a situation where there is a diiference of opinion between our organisation and SAP as to what we are actually licensed for. Unfortunately I can’t go into detail on the differences but I’m keen to hear if this, or something similar, has happened to others.

Yes! Several of my customers have had problems. If you hear your account rep mention the word “conversion” then you know you are in for a battle.

Sorry to hear of your customers woes Clarence. Was this converting from Business Oblect support to SAP support or converting licence models?

Licensing is never straightforward. You’d think it should be but they change their agreements. Frequently.
We found ourselves in a situation where we weren’t licensed for some of the newer products, but if we were a new customer we would have been and then had to do a “conversion” to get them. Bit of a Mexican stand off at one point, but without the third party

Licencing models haven’t been crystal clear (excuse the pun) for some time. They’ve always moved the goalposts, even before SAP took ownership.

One option is, for example, if you’re going straight to SAP, to approach a traditional local BO consultancy who is a reseller, explain your problem, what you actually want, and they can usually resolve things for you with a fresh licence that you get through them.

Still, at least less work for you DC, less new ones for you to attempt to understand :rotf:  .
