We are considering the option instead of attending taught courses. Whilst a full year subscription for the Customer Edition is quite pricey (US$3,250/Europe €2,500) (*) - that would be similar cost wise to a 5 day course and a lot more flexible time and scope wise.
Particularly interested from the technical/admin side of BI.
I have “bought” the free Discovery Edition through the SAP Shop, but the “order” is still processing :/.
(*) - Strangely the UK doesn’t seem to exist in options on the SAP Training and Certification Shop - assume this is a glitch of some sort?
A small update. After a couple of days I opened a support call with SAP as my order for free access was still “Booking in Progress”. After raising the call I discovered deep in the FAQs that the order can up to 2 working days to process - online order for online service on existing account = 2 days - so maybe I was jumping the gun a little and I was just about to be given access.
I got the automated response to the support call and they would get back to me within a working day. So original order 28th Jan, Support call 30th Jan. It’s now a full week later and I’ve not had a response to either. You are really selling this to me SAP…
Did anyone have any experience learning SAP BW/BI with the learning hub? I am also thinking about subscribing to this instead of going to a training. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!
I’ve now got a full sub for a year so can answer some questions if you have any specifics. Essentially it is a lot of SAP learning material available online. If you feel you can learn that way and have access to your own system to try things on then I think it’s a reasonable option. There certainly seems to be quite a depth of material available.
Are there any specific courses you are interested in?
I’ve found it useful if a little restrictive in presentation at times. For example getting the content to fit sensibly on the screen without too much wasted space is tricky for some types of material. They also have a policy of starting a sub when the order is placed but not telling you how to access the material until the payment has been made. In my case this took about 4 weeks because of how my company works. So the years sub started a month before they told me how to use it - I contacted SAP and after a little wrangling they credited me with an extra month.
Overall it’s a decent alternative to attending a course somewhere - certainly financially. Being able to work at your own pace and when you have the time is very useful. You have to make sure you use it though.
