SAP Data Services 3.2 Licensing

I always wanted to know how the SAP does the licensing for the Data Services. I heard that the licensing is based on the number of CPUs that for the first CPU its 1 License and the next CPUs its multiples of 0.5.

So is it like you have 4 environments Prod, QA, SIT and Dev.

Each having 8 CPUs with the total number of CPUs as 4 * 8 = 32 Licenses

  1. So is the license 1 CPU + 31 CPUs * 0.5 = 1 + 15.5 = 17 Licenses
    (OR)

  2. Prod:- 1 CPU + 7 * 0.5 = 1 + 3.5 = 5 Licenses
    QA :- 1 CPU + 7 * 0.5 = 1 + 3.5 = 5 Licenses
    SIT :- 1 CPU + 7 * 0.5 = 1 + 3.5 = 5 Licenses
    Dev:- 1 CPU + 7 * 0.5 = 1 + 3.5 = 5 Licenses

So a total of 20 Licenses in this case.

Which one is correct?

Also if its the 2. option is correct, then is it possible that we just buy the 5 licenses for Prod and then use the same license for the rest of the environments. I know it sounds unethical, but how does SAP deal with that, if the second option is right?

Thanks in Advance.

Prod and Dev are priced differently as well. So you don’t have to spent the full amount of money just to be able to QA the job before moving it to prod.
