SAP BW Load from non-SAP Flat Files

I was wondering if we can load to SAP BW thru only master or transaction structures or there is any other option to load to BW from flat file.

If that is true then I will have to create one infosource per flat file and after that process chain would load to master/transaction tables ?

I think I am missing something here.

What advantage would you expect to go via an intermediate file instead of streaming the data directly via RFC? I am not getting the point.

Of course DataServices can create a flat file, one that you ask BW to read then. :?:
