SAP BO on Mobile(iPad) installation

Hi,

I want to explore BO on mobile. I have a laptop on which I can install BI4. Please let me know is it possible to communicate with laptop via my Ipad using WiFi. If yes, then what should be the server name or port I should give.
Any points to be considered while installing?

Any reference on client to server communication via WiFi will really help. Please suggest.

You can absolutely do this. A few things though.

  1. How much memory does your laptop have? I would suggest at least 16 GB RAM before you attempt this. Even then you should expect 4.0 to run slow. I’d use VMware workstation or VirtualBox to setup a virtual server.

  2. Name the server whatever you want. I’d go with all of the default ports for the installation. Make sure you are installing 4.0 SP5.

  3. Configure BI Mobile on the server. You can find instruction here: http://help.sap.com/boall_en/

  4. Make sure the server and the iPad are on the same network. Verify you can ping the server from the iPad. You will probably have to download a ping app.

  5. Download the BI Mobile or Explorer app from the app store.

  6. Configure connections on the iPad for Mobile app or Explorer app.

  7. For Mobile app, build Crystal Report, Web Intelligence Doc, or Dashboard and add it to the Mobile Category.

  8. For Explorer app, build Information Space, and Index Information Space.

  9. Test.

Note. If you have a small network or home network and are nut running DNS you will need to use the IP address of the server for connections.

Note2. If you are not running DNS you probably won’t be able to get the Explorer app to work unless you know how to edit the hosts file on an iPad. If anyone knows of a workaround her I would be grateful.
