SAP BI 4.2 Lumira, Design Studio, Explorer Server & Clie

Can someone please explain the server and client components that needs to be installed for these Tools?

  1. Lumira(So far what I have found) for a cluster Install
    Server: it is an Add-on that is recommended to be installed on its own box. You have to do a custom BI4 Install first with selective services, then run the Lumira Server BI Addon Installer. You may also run the same Lumira BI Addon Installer on your web tier to Install just the Lumira web components.
    Development: Use Lumira Desktop
    User Access: Via BI Launchpad.

  2. Can someone please tell me the same for Design Studio
    Server Install???
    Developers’ Tools:
    User Access:???

  3. Also Explorer
    Server Install??
    Developer Tools?
    USer Access??

Explorer is purely web-based, and there is no separate design vs. client tool. It is installed as an add-on to an existing BOE server installation.

BusObjects Explorer is dead …dead and again…dead… as far as I am aware.
So keep your hands off it.

With respect to Design Studio:
Server Install? Its an Add-On for the SAP BI BusObjects Platform, which will add additional Services as APS (seperate but similar to the Lumira BIP add-on)
Developers’ Tools: DesignSTudio Client (= eclipse based)
User Access: BI Launchpad

Note, that Lumira & DesignStudio will be merged into ONE product (well more or less that is). Look at SAP’s roadmap (Lumira/DesignStudio) for more details, please.
