row/object level security 6.5.1 vs XI (r2 if it matters)

Hi all,

I’m once again getting into XI after reverting back to 6.5.1. Here is my question, I’ve been doing a lot of reading on row and object level security in v6.5.1 as far as creating conditions in the universe and applying to groups in Supervisor, I believe you can also limit the objects a group can see in the universe, security tables, table hints, self joins etc. Now after all that I’m wondering how much of this can actually be done in XI? I don’t have access to XI yet but need to start thinking about a security model in this environment.
Any insights or experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joel

Hi,

Note that under Xi row level restrictions are manage under designer. You’re right to think about future secxurity organisation. Remember that security will be the hardest thing to migrate !

Hey thanks for replying to this. We have the advantage of not implementing any security model in v 6, and are planning for XI. In the previous version (v6.5.1) all row level restrictions could be implemented at the group level in Supervisor to in essence create role level restrictions. How is this not administered in Designer? Can you apply at a group level as well somehow? Any insight would be appreciated as we have started the design stage of security and want to make sure we are on the right track. We are a little behind in getting XI installed in a sandbox environment.

Thanks in advance.
