Role of Fix Packs?

So, I thought I remembered guidance to only apply CHFs if one was encountering particular issues addressed by the CHF. What’s the guidance on the Fix Pack? We’re just about ready to roll R2 SP2 on a new (Linux) machine - should we toss on FP2.1 as well? And do we need to update our client software (DeskI, Designer, Import Wizard, etc) as well?

Thanks.

According to the tech support people I’ve spoken with, a FixPak is now what a CHF used to be called. I believe they only apply (for now) to SP2…just a new name.

Gotta love all that renaming, rebranding stuff going on there.

A Fix Pack is a CHF on a post SP2 install. CHFs are for post SP1 installs. ie. once one installs SP2, CHFs can no longer be installed (‘No supported products found’). Also, once one installs CHF17, SP2 cannot be installed.

Fix Packs follow the SP2 code base and CHFs follow the SP1 code base.

As far as I can tell HF17 is equivilant to FixPack 2.1 in terms of the updates (FP2.1 was released after HF17, but 17 was released only days after Service Pack 2 came out!?!) That really makes very little sense.

It appears that FixPack 2.2 will address the same issues corrected in HF18.

We applied SP2 + FixPack 2.1 on top of SP1 +MHF1 + CHF13 and have experience performance problems with opening WebIntelligence reports (i.e. very slow or they don’t open at all). WIReportServer.exe process on the server was sucking up 100% cpu, just opening 1 report.

BO Support have advised us that FixPack 2.1 has know issues with Webi Reports, see :

Told to wait on FixPack 2.2, due end of June and remove 2.1 completely.
