Reports migration in BO 6.1

Hi ,

We are working on a reports migration project .
Our client is using BO 6.1 and not interested in upgrading to any newer version. :frowning: We have around 1500 reports in .rep format. Is there any easy way by which i can bulk copy the reports to my new environment?(like Import wizard in BOXI). or do I need to copy each and every report separtely to my new environment?I guess that would be time consuming.
Please let me know if there are alternatve solutions

thanks
Nikhil

bad luck

What do you want to do exactly ? what is your migration then ? Are you just installing a new webi 6 system on another server. On version 6. All your reports are saved in your repository database as blob. and there is no link between your webi server and the repository. Once you have installed your new webi 6 server (assuming it is your work), you will regenerate on it the bomain.key file with the adress of your repository database.

BO prior to XI had no content migration mechanism, apart from the various Document/Universe domains within a repository. So moving content between repositories is tricky.

You mentioned that these are .rep (Full Client) reports; are they all in Corporate Documents?

Agree but in a more general way, backuping reports and / or univers was at this time easier with no synchronismes issues due to the file repository system from Crystal Architecture…

The problem is that BI4.1 does not support Deski Documents you will have to migrate them to webi one by one or use an old BOXI31 Deski in BI4.1.
You can use third party tools to migrate with more facilities

Search for the “DCP”, the Deski Compatibility Pack :!:

Hi Bernard,

We are migrating to a new infrastructure.
The WebServer, Publisher Server and Database Server all gonna be new.
We will create a new repository and share BO Main key among all new servers .
Can we copy the repository from old infrastructure and paste it on new infrastructure ?

Thanks
Nikhil

Yes they are all exported in to the corporate documents.

Ok, so you’re doing a server migration, and not just migrating content.

Yes, you can just copy everything. At a high level:
[:547ea8bd94]Copy the repository to a new location
[
:547ea8bd94]Copy the Storage folder to the new server
[:547ea8bd94]Generate a new bomain.key for the new repository
[
:547ea8bd94]This part is critical: Log into Supervisor with the new bomain.key. Go into each universe/document domain and change the connection to point to the new repository.
[*:547ea8bd94]Publish the new bomain.key to all servers and clients
Unless you had the misfortune to develop on 6.1a :cuss: .

Or come anywhere near Application Foundation 6.1a (or 6.1b (or 6.1.3)).

Performed a 4.1.7 to 6.5 SP2 upgrade in 2005… Oh ! Already 10 years from now…

Oh Yeah! Application Foundation 5.1.8 (and 6.1b and 6.4 AND XIR2)…

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the info.
I am new to BO6.1
Can you please guide me to a document where I can refer these steps.
I know that the repository is on an Oracle database in our case. So apart from this do we have a separate storage location in BO 6.1?
I am confused about your 3rd point. I thought the .rep files are saved in the repository. Sorry for asking in detail…but I am new to this old version.

Thanks
Nikhil

Are you just creating a new webIntelligence 6.1 server keeping the BusinessObjects repository database at the same place with the same oracle version (no change) ?

bernard timbal :fr: (BOB member since 2003-05-26)

Hi Bernard,

I am creating a new Webi Server as well as new Oracle database Server.
Basically it is a total infrastructure migration

thanks
