Reports in Favorite Folder Deleted

Hi,

Is there any way to recover some reports deleted from Favorites folder.

Scenario - We have 1000+ users. And for one particular user say “XYZ”, some one deleted some reports from favorite folder of this user.

So could some one please guide me if it is possible to get them back…

Sure if:
You have a backup of the CMS database and Filestore
OR
You have the content(containing this report) in BIAR file.
OR
You have a Dev/Test environment where you have this report.

Now, why would “someone” has access to user’s folders :o

Zack thanks for your response.

Actually no one knows who deleted those reports. First we need to find the person who deleted those reports. As per the user, he has not deleted any report, so can we find this information from Query builder. We don’t have CMS database?

So wondering if at least we can get the details like - when, who deleted those reports?

Do you mean you don’t have auditing turned on? Then you won’t be able to track who has deleted the report.

Yes we don’t have Auditing database. So isn’t it possible to get the information from Query Builder?

No. We can’t track that information using query builder.

There are only 2 “someone’s” who would have access to a users Favorites folder. Those would be the user and anyone who has the Administrator password. That should be a very limited number of people.

Does your license support auditing? If yes, you would want to turn auditing on. Do you mean you don’t have a DR strategy?

It doesn’t matter who deleted these reports. If you don’t have a backup of your CMS database or don’t have all reports exported out into a BIAR file you will not be able to recover these reports.

The lesson here will be to have auditing enabled and to do regular backups of your FRS and database.

And as a last thing, when I get users saying “Someone deleted my reports from my private folder” it is actually more likely they did it themself. :flush:

Thanks josh for your feedback.

Actually Auditing was never ever enabled from past 1 year. So if now I want to do that, could you please help me with the process. Or please guide me so that I can try to do that at my end. We are using Oracle as a database for our Data warehouse.

Hi

You can check page 560 of this document and this post.

Quite. Some people mistake the delete icon for a close icon and click OK on the dialogue without reading it.
