Hi,
You create a report design document with the follwoing details for each of the report.

  1. Class/Object or Table/Class Name which ever as the standara you choose
    2.Prompts
    3.Query Filters
    4.Alert
    5.Drill Filters

You can start the design document with the above mentioned and add your own if required

It depends on company preferences. But here is something you can have in general

Report Title
Report ID
Frequency
Description
SOrt Sequence
Notes(If any)

Attach sample report format
Columns used in the report format
Descriptions of the columns
Table
You can put above fields in a tabular column.

Hope this helps.

Hi All,

Some more points which I feel are important to be mentioned in the Report Design Specification.

1. The report purpose
2. The report user(who will view the report)
3. Description of each TAB present in the report with purpose

Report design document must cover the report’s technical aspects in utmost details:
1. Alerters
2.Sections
3.Breaks
4.Conditions used in all the queries(always use some nomenclature for the Data Providers)
5.Report level filters/Tab level filters
6.Prompts if any - with their texts
7.For each object - the whole path Class/Subclass/…/Object
8.Linked Objects
9.Use of free hand SQL - (if it is present)
10.Report Level variables with the respective formulae

There could be many more aspects applicable for a report. It depends on the complexity of the report.

Thanks,
Joy
