Report migration utility

Hi,
I have installed BO 6.5 and i want to migrate my reports done in 5.1.7 to 6.5.I heard about the report migration utility.But when i login into the tool it is not showing me the reports available in tht.Looking for the suggestions

How about just opening the old Business Objects document using Reporter v6.5 and then saving it?

Or do you want to convert your full client documents (.rep) files to native WebI documents (.wid files)?

Hi Andreas,
Actually we have reports in 5.1.7. when i tried to open the report in 6.5, it is opening. I like to know wht will be the pros and cons in doing so.

If you open a v5.x Full Client document (*.rep) with Reporter v6.x and then save it, the Full Client document will be saved in a slightly different format and v5.x users will not be able to open the saved version of the document anymore. Does that answer your question?

Is there any procedure to be followed for migration of reports from 5.x to 6.5. whether the procedure is same for all 5.x version migrated to 6.5.Looking for the suggestions

It depends on what version of 5.x you are using. If you are using 5.1.4 or later, you can follow Andreas’ procedure (simple save). If you are earlier than 5.1.4, then it is recommended to upgrade to a later 5.1.x version first (like 5.1.8 ) because of a change in the calculation engine beginning with 5.1.4. Another suggestion would be to get a copy of the recent user conference presentation (available on tech support) on migrating to 6.5.

There was no 5.1 version. It has to be something else. 5.1.0, 5.1.1, 5.1.2, etc.

You really should open your reports with 5.1.6; save them and then open them in 6.x.

Hi,
I installed BO 6.5 and opened the Report Migration utility.There i gave my user id and password.Later on i selected the conversion from wid documents.Then i selected the categories,it is not lisitng the rep files.Looking for the suggetions

In a 513 / 514 migration, you have to download from techsupport a tool named BOReportAnalyzer (search with keywords “Bo_calculator_Enhancement”)

If you want, i can provide you a doc (in french) I wrote about how to use it

this tool, provided “as if”, let you able to check if your reports are impacted by changes mades on bo calculator between 513 and 514 (filter management on multi dp reports)

you can download it from Bo techsupport if you have a valid account on it

Actually i had a query in the report migration.As i told in the pervious post i have to migrate the reports from 5.1.3 to 6.5.Since the calculation engine has been changed in 5.1.4.so whther i have to migrate it to 5.1.4 from 5.1.3 or directly i can migrate the reports to 6.5 from 5.1.3.Looking for the suggestions

AFAIK and as I can remember this Migration tool offers a conversion from Fullclientreports to webireports … and so should not help in a migration tour from 513 to 651… Fullclients

I suggest to check your reports with already mentioned tool or you check it yourself whether your 513 reports work ok in a release 516 (I suggest! - that’s that named tools Version…)
When everything went ok - your reports are doing well with the changing in the calculation engine … then you may proceed to Version 651 and test your reports again …
