Renaming a Universe

Business Objects Ver. 5.0, Webi Ver. 2.5 using Oracle Ver. 8 and Sybase Ver. 11, on Windows NT Ver. 4.

We need to rename a universe but we already have some reports using the current name. Is there a way to repoint the reports to the new universe name? Also we did not change any of the names of the objects with the new universe. Thanks.

Hi Barry,

There may be many ways to fix your problem. I know only on this way, please follow the steps: 1. Open your reports
2. Goto Data/View and select Definition tab 3. Select the renamed Universe by clicking the button … Now your report will point to the renamed universe. I guess you need to do for all the reports. The other folks will help you if there is any easy way.

Hope this helps.

Thanks
Ravi.

There are many ways to do this but the quickest and cleanest way we did this was to
o Run B.O. Designer.
o Bring up the Universe that the reports are pointing to o Select File/Paramaters.
o There you will see the Login Paramaters section o Change accordingly without affecting any reports

good luck,
Joe

Hi everyone,

I have a universe from which I have created several reports. I would like to rename that universe. To ensure that the reports still work, I have been going in to them one by one, clicking on Data, then View, then for each data provider I click on the Definition tab and select the renamed universe. Is this the proper way to do it (one report at a time), or is there a smarter way?

Thanks,
Mike

Michael,

Two questions:

  1. Are you changing the short name or the long name?

  2. Is this universe on the repository?

I ask this because if you are only changing the long name and it is on the repository (and, therefore, uses a secured connection), you don’t need to reassociate the documents with it after renaming it. I tested this myself: After changing the long name and re-exporting the universe, I opened a document created against the universe previously and successfully refreshed it.

I guess all bets are off if the universe is using a personal/shared connection and/or you are changing the short (DOS 8.3) name.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Paul

I suppose the question is why you are renaming the universe ? If you simply want to “re-label” the universe, just do it in parameters in designer, and you don’t have to do a thing If you want to rename the ******.uni why would you bother except if you have bigger plans that youre not letting us in on (You might achieve what you want to do by creating new Universe domains etc) Simon
