Read/Unread

Has anyone else been having issues with posts not getting marked read? Yesterday and this morning, some posts (but not all) wouldn’t ever get marked read. Even those I replied to.

Then, just a few minutes ago, all the posts in the forum were marked read. Even those I hadn’t read.

Incidentally, I’m on Chrome if it makes a difference.

I use Firefox, and haven’t seen that issue. Everything is working as expected for me.

Read/unread is tracked via a session cookie.

Funny, I just wanted to open a similar topic. It seems that every time I restart my machine/browser, everything is set to “read” and only posts from after the start time are marked unread.

And yes, I’ve also seen topics not being marked “read” after reading or replying. It seems a bit random. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not…

That’s the default behavior. If you close your browser, or log off, then all unread posts are automatically marked read. That’s what I meant by a “session cookie” meaning it expires when your session does.

Lugh, I don’t have an explanation for the behavior you’re describing. You’re saying they’re never getting marked as read?

ah ok, yes, sure, session cookie :cookie:  :cookie:

Most modern forum software packages use the database to track read topics, so they carry over from session to session. Our base software package (which is still largely functional, despite its age) was written in 2002. Full read-tracking was on the list to implement but it never got done.
