re point existing reports to a new Universe

Hi ,

I have created a new Universe by combing two universes which already exist .

now i want to re point the existing reports to this universe .

would this be a good idea if yes what about teh objects that dont exist in teh universe hwo willl i know and any precuations to be taken

these are webi xir2 reports

Hi

When you change your query to new universe in webi, Change source window will show you the equivalent object in the new universe and show you the objects which is not available also.

Instead of combining two universes why don’t you go for universe linking.

Hi

It would be good idea to have single universe when there is a scope to build.

If the reports are Webi Reports you can just link the objects i.e, old universe objects to new ones so the corresponding objects from new universe gets replaced with the old ones and you need not have to do any thing except the pointing the perfect replacements

wouldnt the objects in old and repointed universe replace each other once i repoint it ?

would i have to do it manually or it happens automatically?

please tell me as i have combined daily and monthly data in one and created 1 universe

From memory, I believe it matches the object names when you re-point in XIr2.

Have a look at this, post below, it may help with some of the repointing, depending on how you have done things.

You will still have some manual work to do, but this may save you some of it:-

thanks for the reply and link

it means …now i have universe A = original univ
univ B = my combined univ

il first save A as some other name and export it

save B as save as giving it name univ A and export it

so all reports are automatically re pointed and i dont have to do manual mapping

please correct meif am wrong

Your approach will work.

Just make sure you have back ups before proceeding!

Don’t just repoint the universe and save, run the report and check formatting too.

Agreed…:).

You may also find some of the variables need fixing. Don’t just think this is all going to be a five minute job, as it may be more than that…;).

I allow 15 minutes per report (planning time). Unless of course your reports are so complex that maybe you should be thinking about rewriting them anyway.

Damocles :uk: (BOB member since 2006-10-05)

reports arent complex but the problem is these were created by the Vendor who did BO implementation so the job for me is to understand these reports and consolidate them if possible and then create them from the new universe which i have made .

so like your suggestion i feel its better to create teh report from scratch to understand the reports.

what do yousuggest ?>

i feel 30 min per report would be enough

First question: Why you wanted that report needs to recreating.? as its having any problem in it ?

It sounds good to start the report from scratch rather than doing change on existing piece.

I dont think 30min is the idle time to develop a report and test.

we had monthly univ and daily univ giving both sales and rentals data .

now my boss asked me to create a sales univ which cannot show rental data and contains both daily and monthly data …same for retail.

hence i have to repoint these reports or create them again .

dunnow hat to say Boss is alwyas right

Rule1: Accept: When your boss say your wrong.
