It is really crazy. In formula tab, we should not use mouse to select the
functions and objects. We should simply type the whole formula. You
shouldn’t even change to first tab in between. Complete the formula in one
stretch then goto first tab, change it to ‘Measure’. It works. But you can
never change the formula again. If you try to change it, Object type will
change to ‘Measure’ and we can’t change it back.
On the other hand, though we could create the object as Dimesion, it does
not work. My formula is, “=Count()”. When I try to use this
variable in report, it displays ‘#MULTIVALUE’ error.
Does it mean, we can never use aggregate functions in dimension object? Is
that why BO automatically disables the First tab after setting object type
to Measure?

Gentlemen,
It does not have to do with a difference between 4.1.4 and earlier
versions
(at least not 4.13 or 4.12). The key here is after you have added the
formula, go back to the first tab and reset the type BEFORE you OK. If
you
do not, you will not be able to change it.

Vasan,
Are you sure? I just tested it and it worked fine. Perhaps it has
something to do with the version you are running on. We are on 4.1.4.
This
might be an issue with earlier versions. Sorry I couldn’t help.

We tried that. But once we enter the formula for the variable, BO
automatically changed the object to measure and disabled all the controls
in
the first tab. So we couldn’t change the type to measure

You can create a variable and force the measure to a dimension. create
a
blank column. rightclick on it and go to “variables” and NOT edit
formuala.
once in, in the first tab type the name of the variable, go to the
second
tab and insert the name of the measure object you want. this is the
kicker,
before you say ok, BO automatically changed the object to be a measure.
go
back to the first tab and for the dimension. you should now be able to
do
a
break on this column. hope this works for you, i haven’t tested it.
