question on projects, blx and dfx tabs in IDT

So I am learning the IDT on the fly. I was fairly proficient in the old Universe Design Tool (2+ years) but now just recently opening up IDT, and we’ve converted all Universes from .UNV to .UNX.

The IDT is more of an IDE type tool, with projects, multiple tabs, etc.

But I’m confused as to how to IDENTIFY which project I’m working on!!!

The .blx tabs DO have the retrieval date, so I can see that. BUT - the project pane has a highlighted item that is NOT NECESSARILY the ACTIVE tab. So that is confusing.

PLUS - I cannot see ANY identification on the active .blx tab - so how do you know which project you’re working on??

Here’s the blx window but the highlighted item on the left doesn’t match the active window …

Yes, the organization of stuff in IDT can be confusing. It’s a little better if you’re already used to Eclipse, but not much.

To the right of “Local Projects” there is an icon with two arrows pointing left and right. Turn it on – then selecting a tab in the right-hand pane will automatically highlight its associated entry in the Local Projects pane.

Also, as a safety measure, you can close all projects except the one you are working on. That will ensure that you don’t accidentally touch one that you don’t intend to.

joeoeters,

Well, good to know I’m not alone in some start-up confusion.

Good on the tip, I’ll try it this afternoon.

I did start deleting the projects for safety and organization, but it is a nice versioning system to go back and see the progression of changes.

WHOA !!! I clicked the double arrow thingy, and now the active tab is highlighted in the Local Projects pane - - - - NICE !!!

Thx.

Yeah, it’s useful to have that option in Eclipse (I usually have it turned off), but it makes little sense to have it off in IDT… It can create confusion, as you’ve found.
