Querying a SharePoint List

Hi,

I would likee to know if it is possible to create a query that would retrieve data from a SharePoint list, similar to what we do with Excel.
We are curretnly using BO XI Version 12.3.2 and SharePoint 2010.

How about creating an scheduled extract to an excel file, which you can query. Or creating a webservice and connect to that?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have created an Excel extract, I just don’t know how to schedule an automatic refresh. At this point it only refreshes when I open the file (which is not convenient).
Regarding the webservice I am not familiar with it, but I can reach out to my IT department to see if that is an option.

Thanks for letting me know how I can automate the excel extract if you have some information.

Can’t you use MS Access as the link between SP and Infoview?

You can link to a SP list from access and create an ODBC connection to the access database from Designer.

I think the SP Admin has to allow the use of Access, but I think it’s possible.
What we did was had our SharePoint Admins export the list to an XML file on a scheduled basis and used ETL tools to load our tables. It affords an opportunity to take a wide list and split it across tables for a more familiar design and to do some calculations. I was wondering if the Integration Kit would give us the ability to use a SharePoint List as a Data Souce for a WebI Report or Universe, but it doesn’t look like it. Now THAT would be kool.

Hey pcgeekus, this sounds good especially staying away from Access. That said, were you able to extract SPECIFIC information from within a Sharepoint document
ie
Excel file on sharepoint - extract column B based on Key column A

Ours was based on a SharePoint form that stored its data on a SharePoint list. I don’t think you can pull data from a document that was uploaded to your site, nor is that a reliable way to collect data.

Can we scheduled reports from BO XI 3.1 SP5 to sharepoint 2010?

Yes you can. In your SharePoint library, setup and E-Mail, then schedule your report and send it to that SharePoint email address. Also, there is a SP integration kit that can be installed and puts BO Web Parts to use as well. I have not tried it yet.

Thanks for the response.
so is it sharepoint integration kit , that i have to download from sap site

should we install that both on BO server as well as on sharepoint server.

Thanks again

Like I said, we have not tried it. I don’t know if SAP charges extra for it or it’s part of the base install. Check with your sales rep and in the Guide for the kit. If you try it, let us know what the basic install process was and any issues we need to be aware of.

I opened a support ticket with sap and sap engineer mentioned that sharepoint 2010 is not supported with BOXI3.1 SP5
as 2010 is 64 bit application and BO is 32 bit application.

so they are not going to help us in this as sharepoint 2010 is not listed in supported platform guide.

Sharepoint Lists can be exposed via webservices - maybe this is an avenue of investigation?
