I worked as a SAP BI Consultant.I have a chance to work on Data Cleansing project .They are using SAP BO information Steward in that project. Source system is Oracle.I don’t know any thing about the SAP BO information steward.Don’t hesitate if there is any mistake in my questions.
Would you please give me the information on SAP BO information steward.I have some doubts.
1)What is purpose of the SAP BO information steward.
SAP BO information steward is maintain relationship with Data cleansing,SAP BO data services, SAP BO meta data management,
3)SAP BO information steward is separate software or it is a package on SAP BO data services.
4)Do you have any step -step procedures on SAP BO Information Steward.
5)Based On which Source systems i have to extract the data into SAP BO information System.

SAP BOBJ Information Steward empowers data stewards with a single environment to discover, assess, define, monitor and improve the quality of enterprise data asset.
-IS enables you to discover and better understand your data through data profiling, metadata management and cataloging data assets.
-you can also define business terms, establish validation rules, assign data ownership and create cleansing packages for parsing standardization. You can also assign data ownership, accountability and roles.
2)IS is related to Data Cleansing if you need to customize the cleansing package and add more rules then export it to atl file and then import it in DS.
Using the Cleansing Package you created in IS you can now Data Cleanse in Data Services. Metadata Management is one of the four modules of Information Steward. It can help you understand your BI environment, trace data lineage from a report to sources and perform impact analysis from source to reports.
3)Information Steward is a separate software not included in Data Services package.
4)You have to ask for a training or you can have research on the documents be resourceful
5)It can be different DBs using ODBC connections, flat files, excel file and etc.
several points that you better understand what Information Steward is used to:
You can not cleanse data with Information Steward. You can profile data, create validation rules (data quality requirements) , apply these rules to your data and see how many records are violating your requirements = How good or bad your data quality is.
If you want to cleanse data, you need to implement Data Services or Data Quality Management Jobs.
You do not need to “put data into Information Steward”. Simply create a Connection to your Oracle Database in the CMC for Information Steward, then choose “add table to project” to include in your data insight project all the Oracle tables that you really want to do datta profiling or data quality assessment on.
You do not “need to write SQL statements in Inforation steward for pickuip the data rom the tables” for doing data profiling or data qulaity assessment as you bind your rules to the tables within Information Steward and then “calcualte the score” by creating a Rule task.
Only time you might want to create a SQL statement is within a validation rule, where you might want to use a LOOKUP function to define the rule to validate, if specific fields or content of every record in your table is either piece of e central data domain table or exisitng in another external table as well.
The lookup functions and teh SQL function are described pretty well in the Information Steward User Guide.
Please get a basic understanding of what Information Steward does, and what it does not in the Porduct Tutorials.
