Publishing a Dashboard with QAAWS

Hi everybody,

Question about the Xcelsius Publishing Plugin :

I have made a very complex dashboard that I would like to publish to different users.
My dashboard is fed by QAAWS. A prompt to select these users exist in all queries of QAAWS.

I would like to use the Publishing Plugin but I’m not sure to understand : do I have to re-do my Excel sheet with WebI so that I can use the result as a base for a dashboard, using a dashboard template ?

Honestly, this would be a show-stopper for my project… The Excel sheet is too complex to be created with WebI…

Isn’t it possible to schedule QAAWS queries or would you have any other idea that would help me ?

Thank you for your help

Another option is to use Crystal Reports 2008 with Xcelsius Embeded. The CR can then be refreshed via the Publisher to create “Personalized” dashboards as PDF output. I have done this and seems to work well. IF you are using Multiple QaaWs Calls that are executed by other events, then this might not work.

The pdf will not show the dashboard if the xcelsius document is bound to the crystal report data. Are just embedding the xcelsius doc in the report?

The Xcelsius within a Crystal Report 2008 document will display with interactivity when published to PDF. Adobe 9 or higher is needed.

cduey,

I just tried to do this this week and it didnt work. According to the bo documentation Xcelsius dashboards that are “bound” to crystal report data will not display in pdf. If the xcelsius dashboard is just embedded, but sourced from external data sources it will display and be interactive. If you got this to work with a Crystal report bound Xcelsius I’d sure like to hear what steps you took, since it would have made my project alot easier

We have Xcelsius 2008 SP1, Crystal Reports 2008

Thanks

I will work on a quick document on how i did this. Probably later this week.

Hi guys,

I can’t use Crystal Report as my customer don’t have it and is not ready to pay for it

The point is that I’m trying to figure out a way to schedule my Xcelsius dashboard “as it is” right now.

I’ve investigated a way to do it with the “Xcelsius Publishing Plugin” but :

  • the documentation refers to a “batch.exe” that doesn’t seem to exist
  • On one hand, I’ve been told that this plugin is dedicated to xcelsius SDK guys (https://bobj-board.org/t/123752)
  • On the other hand, the doc says that the process behind the plugin is : a report is created with webi, that is schedule then sent to an Excel sheet, that is used to feed a xcelsius template… but I have already created a dashboard with a very complex Excel sheet and I don’t want to re-do it with WebI

… in conclusion, I would say that the concept of “publishing an excelsius dashboard” is still not a reality.

I’ve thought about duplicating the dashboard (1 person, 1 dashboard) but I have between 50 and 100 so I think I’m gonna develop something by myself but still, as far as I’m concern, there’s something missing here.

Thank you anyway guys for the time you spent on this. If I figure something out, I will tell you

Alex

From my own research it looks like the “batch.exe” needs to be requested from your Sales Rep.

Without Crystal it is difficult to create the “Personalized” Published dashboard. The “Xcelsius Publishing Plugin” is in the right direction but then again if you are using Xcelsius and have formulas in the “excel” I’m not sure how this would work.

If I come across anything as well I will post it too.
