Properties not showing up

All,
For some reason the properties window is not displaying for the latest version of my xlf file. I have searched the forum and have read the replies to the previous posts. I did delete the xcelsius settings via the registry. I also reinstalled xcelsius as well as changed my desktop screen size. Also stopped autohide for the properties window. None of these helped. I am only seeing the canvas properties. I was able to open up a previous version of the file and the properties window is showing for those components. However I have made a lot of updates and would like to open up the current version of my file. Please assist!!

Actually I can see the properties by clicking on the components via the object browser. However I cannot delete or update any of my components for this file…

Hi Amit,
this usually happens if one of the components causes an ActionScript crash. If you have release version of Flash player installed, you don’t see the crash, but you see the symptoms you describe. You can install debug version of Flash player from Adobe website, open your file and you will get the error message; sometimes from this error message you can see which component is causing the problem. You can select this component in the object browser, delete it, save the file, restart Xcelsius and re-open the file. Then uninstall debug flash player through Add-remove programs and install back release flash player (also from Adobe website). Also, please report the bug to SAP.

Hi Amit,
just delete this folder from the regedit:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Xcelsius\Settings\en

Then restart your xcelsius and that’s it.

Hope this helps,

Hi Luca,
this works when you don’t see the properties window at all. As far as I understand, Amit sees the properties window, but the property sheet doesn’t update when she selects components on the canvas.

Hey Margaret,
ready for bet??
Apart from jocking, I had the same problem and it works for me. I do it everytime my canvas or property sheet disappear without a reason.

If you check in my older posts, you’ll se that many people used this solution.
Of course I think that people should try different solutions.

Hope this helps,

Hey Luca,
yes, I am ready to bet.
I know about the registry key ( see Properties not showing up) , but it’s absolutely different problem. Deleting the registry key resets the windows positions to default, so if you had properties window completely invisible because of wrong saved window coordinates, you will see it after deleting the key. But resetting windows positions can’t fix ActionScript error. Sometimes reloading the model fixes ActionScript errors, but this has nothing to do with the registry. If reloading the model doesn’t fix action script error, you can either install fix pack if available or delete component causing the problem.

Hey Margaret,
I’ll keep in mind your solution for the next time that Xcelsius will give me that problem and I’ll try it, it sounds very interesting!!
By the way, let’s hope that one of these solutions will help someone :).

Have a nice day!
Cheers,

I agree with Margaret i had the same problem and deleted the registry file still it didnot fix my issue. I had to do a work around for the components by having different components then it worked.

Thanks

Ok guys,
you convinced me, so Margaret you won the bet ;)! Apologies Amit I didn’t see that you tried the solution I suggested at the beginning. So, they are definitely two different issues. We could set a “forumtopics web meeting” in which we will share our best practices for Xcelsius.

Cheers,

Please Help!! We’ve lost 3 days of work for the same exact problem. Is there any way to find the component within the error message? The only other option we can think of is to rebuild the entire dashboard from the ground up again.

For some background information, we’ve unistalled everything and reinstalled with all fix packs, renamed the registry folder, as explained by Luca, verified the lastest adobe flash player, ran the debugger, identified script error #1503, as explained by Margaret, and rebuilt the dashboard from a previous working version 3 times and it keeps coming back.

Any ideas to save this project would be extremely appreciated!! Attached are the error messages.

This is my first post so apologies if i’ve missed something.

I’ve spent 2 days scouring the Net to find a solution for the issues stated above. I have built a dashboard which the properties simply stops responding. I have rebuilt and having saved the file and re-opened the same issue occurs again. I cannot delete or add components to be reflected in the object browser. I have lost days of work on this and the forum seemed to stop without a solution, please if anyone could help I would be most grateful,

Thanks

Jake

so, are you saying you did run the Activescript Fix above? …and the registry edit…and the screen resolution change?

Also what version of xcelsius do you have.

Cairmor :us: (BOB member since 2008-06-05)

Unfortunately I do not have admin rights to my PC at work. I cannot access the Regedit or install the debug version of Flash Player.

I have raised an IT request for this but being a big organisation i’m not holding out hope this will happen soon if ever.

I can’t see any solution re screen resolution? Unless i’m being blind could you please elaborate on this?

I am running version 5.0.0.99

I also have just rebuilt the entire dashboard from scratch today and again have encountered the same issue. I saved 23 different versions as i was working with each component added and am currently working through them to find out at which point the app doesnt like it?

It seems to work fine up until the point I want to save and exit the app. When i re-open the file the binding to the properties window is lost and i cannot add / delete components?
