Prompts, Query Filters with Local Data Source??

I’m doing a lot of “proof of concept” and practice with Webi. Its easy to create a quick Excel sheet with 20 rows of data in the format the final product will be in, then launch Webi, connect to local data source, and play with the report as it will look.

However I want to take it a step further and do query filters, prompts, etc which you can’t seem to do when you go right into webi and connect to a local data source. Is there any way to do this?

One suggestion might be to create a universe over my flat files, but I’ve spent well over 20 hours trying to create a universe off an excel or flat file data source (or even access), setting up ODBC connections, editing files, on and on, and could not get it to work. Talked to other BOBJ consultants around here and all have had no luck in the past doing that as well.

You might want to import the excel data into MS Access and save as .mdb and then go and create a ODBC connection pointing to that .MDB file and after that create a universe as normal.

When using a personal data file, you can’t add any query filters, including prompts. As suggested, upload it into Access, and create a simple universe on that.
