Problems with Designer

Hey Guys,

Im getting a problem, i have 2 clients Windows XP with Designer.

One client is connecting normaly, I can connect in the server, import universes and work on them.
The other one, its connecting as well, but when i try to import, i get the folow error:

Failed to initialize import/export dialog.
Previous Error: Failed to retrieve root universes folder. You may not have permission to view this folder.

Some consideration:

  1. Both computers are using the same user, Adminitrator.
  2. The first client conect using only the ip:port like 192.1.1.1:6400. The second one just get connected if i put @192.1.1.1:6400 (J2EE Portal).
  3. The second client, connect in the server.

Have you guys got this problem?

Thanks

Something is not right. The J2EE Portal option should only appear in DeskI, if you’ve connected in three-tier mode previously. It shouldn’t show up as an option in Designer.

I’m assuming that you’re IP isn’t really 192.1.1.1. Can you connect the second machine using the actual CMS name?

Thanks Man!

No, the IP is just an exemple.

The thing is, one computer connects normaly using the real IP:6400 and the others dont connect.

Im not using the CMS name though, the ip works for one computer.

Thanks so far joepeters.

What do you get for an error on the others when you just use the IP? Are they behind any kind of firewall?

When I try from the other computer, i get the follow error:

Cannot access the repository. (USR0013)

[repo_proxy 13] SessionFacade::openSessionLogon with user info has failed(Transport error: Communication failure.(FWM 00001)
(hr=#0x80042a01)

Its very strange, in this computer the firewall is down so i dont really know what’s the problem.

Thanks again joepeters.

It’s most likely some kind of network issue. Search for “openSessionLogon” here on BOB - there are a bunch of topics with some recommended solutions.

Hey joepeters,

After everything is working, people start to ask about the solution quality.

Do you have any idea why it happens?
Why would I need to add more information in the Hosts file so it could work?

Thanks

I’d suspect a network configuration issue, nothing to do with BO.

Hi VegasWallacy,

Please give the details what have you added in hosts file. I am facing the same issue.

Starnge thing is my other friends are being able to login into Designer, but I cant. I checked the network settings, they are same except the IP Address.

CMS BOXI R3.1 running on HP Unix 64 Bit, client tools running on Windows XP SP3

Thanks

In my case, I had to add an entry in the SERVER HOST file. I believe the reason is, the server is multihomed.
