Problem with Xcelcius 2008 freezing when previewing

I have a user who is developing an dashboard in Xcelcius 2008. The source Excel file is about 168K in size and when either he or I tries to preview the dashboard Xcelcius 2008 displays the “Generating swf” dialog for a few minutes, then it displays an “Initializing…” progress bar which moves about a 1/3rd of the way across. At that point Xcelcius seems to “freeze”, but if you look at the task manager shows the xcelcius.exe process consuming huge amounts of memory (800+MB) and CPU (50%+) and then it goes idle.

The same is true if I export the dashboard as a .swf file and then try and view the file in Internet Explorer 6, except that IE consumes hugh amounts of memory and CPU then goes idle without displaying the dashboard. Eventually, I end up killing the process as it seems to be frozen.

I searched the BO support site as well as googled this issue, but found very little content regarding Xcelcius 2008. Any ideas, or thoughts about other things to try would be appreciated.

The user has reported back to me that he had some links to other excel sheets which were pulling in values for the dashboard. He said that by removing the links and replacing them with the actual values he was able to get the dashboard to preview properly.

Hi,

I am having the same problem although I do not have any links to other sheets. I do however have a good amount of references to other cells and lookups. I know this is the reason why it’s using alot of memory but 800mb worth?

Anybody else encounter this problem and how have you solved it?
