Problem Combing Multiple Universes

Hi, I am a new user and need some help please.

I have queried two universes and merged the appropriate dimensions but the two blocks do not line up as I expected them to. Example: Common merged dimensions are Student Name and Student ID in each of the universes. The two block reports do not line up automatically. Is it a requirement to sort by those similar fields as well?

I would like to be able to join the two blocks together, so that I do not have the Student Name and Student ID duplicated in each of the blocks. :hb:

Thanks for the help!

Why do you want to create two blocks? Or Are you trying get the data from the two data providers in a single block?

Thanks for the reply!

I am trying to get them into one block but cannot figure it out. I even bought Business Objects XI for Dummies. After further research it seems I may have to create detail objects?!?!

Any help you can provide would be appreciated!

Thanks!!!

To get the data into one single block, you need to link/merge the common dimensions. However, there are a few restrictions:

  1. You can include all dimension objects from only ONE data provider.(You can’t have non-linked dimensions from the other data provider.)
  2. You can include all measure objects from both the data providers.
  3. You can include only merged dimensions from the other data provider.
  4. You can include detail objects that are linked to the dimensions that are merged.
it would be very helpful if you can provide more details about your requirement.

Thanks so much for the help. Hopefully the below info will be clearer.

I have 33 universes to choose from and have selected 17 dimensions from the Student Coursework universe with a filter for Mathematic classes, and added a second Query with 5 dimensions from the Student Demographic universe with no filters. I merged Student Name and Student ID between the two universes, but when I run the report it simply gives back two blocks on the same page. Moreover, the second block from Query 2 (Student Demographics) simply returns all students.

I am thinking I need to create a Detail Object, but really do not have a clue how to do that, or get the two Queries to synch. I have searched the Internet for basic level training but it does seem to be available. I can create reports using a single universe but combined queries escapes me.

Thanks Again!
Jim
