Print/document IDT universe

Hi all
In the old universe design tool there was a print function with graphics options where you could autodocument the universe that had been built. You could also print to a pdf tool, such as Cutepdf and create proper documentation of the universe. Unfortunately I can’t find any such function in IDT and I can’t even print to my PDF creation tool :frowning:
Does anyone know if there is a function that I am missing or is it just not possible in this version - we are using 4.1 sp 5 I think?? The version stated in Help/About is 14.0.6.v20130408-1036.
Thanks

In IDT from the Local Projects window right-click the connection, data foundation or business layer that you want to “print”
Select “Save As …” and a Generate Report popup will appear where you can select the PDF location to save the universe information & which metadata elements you wish to include in the report

Hi,

I want to export my newly created universe in IDT 4.0 to PDF.

I tried save as option and then exported it to pdf, but i only get metadata information. I also want the data foundation model diagram in master view to be inserted into the pdf.

Is it possible to do so?

Hi Diptesh
Have you tried to right click on the data foundation file in your project - dfx - and do Save as pdf from there. There might be parameters there that might help you.
Cheers

Hi Sarah,

I have tried that. It only exports metadata.

Hi again
When you open the dfx you see a menu with Insert, Detect, etc across the top. See attachement.
Click on the icon that looks like a page with a magnifying glass, this is the “Save View as Image” button that allows you to create a png file of your dfx diagram.
This should work for you.
Cheers

Hello,

I had found the option “Save View as Image…” to export a view of the DFX model to a PNG image, but my DFX is quite large and when I export it to PNG only a part of it is exported. When I zoom out more in the DFX view and export, then more gets exported to the PNG, but then you can’t read anything because it’s so compressed.

When I zoom in more until it’s readable, then the export to PNG only captures part of the screen (top left). It seems like it only supports export up to a certain size or pixels.

Anyone else had this issue, and if so, found any solution? (short of manually screenshotting and pasting each section together in a photo editor?)
Cheers!

I’m looking at v4 for the very first time, so please forgive me if I’m wrong, but…

In Designer (i.e. UNV files), as long as you had all of the options checked, you could save the Universe as a PDF file and see every detail relating to the Universe: Parameters, Tables, Objects, Conditions, Joins, Contexts etc…From memory, the only thing that was missing was Index Awareness information. So, in theory, a skilled developer could build a Universe purely from the information detailed in the PDF file.

However, in IDT, if you print as a PDF file, you only see very, very limited information - no join cardinalities, context details etc… Am I missing something?

How do you properly document a UNX given the above and the fact that the downloadable Excel utilities no longer work?
