Post Install Issues With DS 4.2 SP07 Patch 1

I have DS 4.2 SP07 Patch 1 with IPS 4.2 SP03 that was just installed on a Windows 2012 server. This was a brand new install, not an upgrade of an existing install. (I applied the same install of DS to an existing 4.2 instance and didn’t see any of these problems.)

In the CMC all the services show running and disabled except for the Central Management Server which shows Running/Enabled. I tried enabling the other servers but they stay disabled. Any attempt to add a repository to the CMC results in the following error:

The O/S was rebooted as part of the install. The SIA was restarted after creating the job server in the Server Manager utility.

In the Repository Manager, from the server O/S, when I try to do a Get Version on an existing repository (4.2 or 4.0 versions) the Repository Manager application blows up. Upgrade comes back saying an error occurred but it doesn’t say what the error is.

I managed to run a Create on an existing repository (4.0). It returned an error at a point that looks like it was mostly complete. The job server is able to associate to the 14.2.7 repository OK.

I applied the latest patch for IPS (4.2 SP03 patch 2) and that didn’t help. Uninstalling and then reinstalling both IPS and DS worked. IPS seems to get “stuck” when a license key is changed. The servers went to disabled and (without the patch) could not be enabled.

One question that is outstanding is what happened to the license key. The key that was generated from the SAP site this week was entered during the install but when we look at the license key from within IPS it doesn’t match at all. It’s like IPS is munging/encrypting the key.

Hi Jim,

I just wanted to let you know that I ran into the very same problem when upgrading an IPS 4.1 SP07 and DS 4.2 SP07 installation to IPS 4.1 SP08 and DS 4.2 SP08.

All the services went to disabled, except for the CMS service. While you can still log into the DS and run jobs, the profiler is out of action and Information Steward (also installed on the same server) is also out of action.

Uninstalling the SP08 components did not resolve the issue so I’m now looking at a complete server reinstall. (Awesome quality control before release… :hb: )

I removed all SAP BO Client tools incl. Lumira and Design Studio, all DS/IS components and SAP IPS from the system.

I downloaded the “stand alone” or “full install” version of SAP IPS 4.1 SP08 and ran into a big “JNI” Java error at 80% of the installation, leaving me with a broken setup program so I could not gracefully uninstall the failed IPS installation either. I cleaned up the registry and deleted all the files and tried again - same result and same clean-up applied.

I still had the full install version of SAP IPS 4.1 SP05 so I installed that, which went fine. I then applied the Service Pack update version of SAP IPS 4.1 SP08 and that went fine.

I then re-installed SAP Data Services and SAP Information Steward 4.2 SP08, reconfigured the repositories, etc. and that all went fine with the exception of the error described in SAP Note 2270642 which revolves around SSL errors trying to register a DS repository in the BO/IPS CMC when that repository database is hosted on Microsoft SQL Server 2014.

However, the fix/workaround listed in the SAP Note worked just fine and now our demo environment is up and running on DS/IS 4.2 SP08.

What a pain. Uninstall/reinstall is a very time consuming process.
