Partial Results

We had a problem with this also but it was specific to universes with
aliases on measure objects. We found that the combined query/join time
needed by the SQL executed by BusinessObjects was exceeding the time limit
we had set in the universe properties. If you are using aliases, I would
suggest doing some experimentation with the row/time restrictions. We also
have found that some of our users can get very enthusiastic when creating
BusinessObjects reports and load the report up with many measures (which are
aliases in the universe). For universes with large volumes of data behind
them, these type of “overloaded” reports will ALWAYS return partial results.

I have a user who created a nested query with the exact objects and conditions being
used with the exception of a different ‘org’ being selected in each. 7 of the 8 queries run
fine with the eigth returning the “partial results message” although there are actually no
results. I researched this both on the BO Knowledge Base and in the Listserv archives
trying every possible recomendation. I have increased row limit to 2.5 million and execution
time to 4 hours. The query returns at a time far less than the max and with 0 rows.
Any Suggestions?

Thanks,

Jeff

When we had this problem the only way I managed to get around it was to remove the row limit and execution time limitations altogether. Have you tried that? It’s not ideal but it worked for us.

Thanks Rob,

I’m posting this online so perhaps others can benefit also. I removed both time and row limitations and the query ran successfully. It took 90’ and only returned 4500 row but I am well aware that it must go through a monster view to get there. It’s not an ideal solution but fortunately it’s a once a month issue for us. Thanks again.

Jeff

Why would I get the ‘Partial Results’ message for a query? I haven’t set anything special for this report. And it isn’t running longer than the max set in the universe. It seems like it’s some sort of error message. What does it mean?

Listserv Archives (BOB member since 2002-06-25)

Check your Maximum Rows Retrieved setting in the universe. If your query returns 10,000 rows and this setting is 5,000 rows, I believe you will get this error message.

Q: Why would I get the ‘Partial Results’ message for a query? I haven’t set anything special for this report.

A: There is not anything set for reports, but you should uncheck Query Limits under Universe Parameters/Controls, particularly the - Limit Execution time to - parameter which will cause confusion when running multi queries reports.

Is it reaching the maximum number of rows specified in the universe parameters?

Listserv Archives (BOB member since 2002-06-25)

In addition to the universe limits mentioned in the other replies, you also get this message when somebody sets row limits in the options dialog box in the query panel for one of the report’s queries. (Sometimes people set this for testing queries and forget about it later.) Click the “Options…” button in the query panel of each query to check.

this setting is one of the controls at the universe level so you’ll have to talk to your administrators.

this is configurable in both designer and supervisor in roughly the same spot.

also i think that the supervisor setting takes precedence over the universe setting as defined in designer but i am not positive. (anyone else?)

Yes, the Supervisor setting overrides the base parameter set by the Designer.

The advantage is you can have the universe designer set a limit of say 10,000 rows, but have a special group of users called “Power Users” set up in the repository. The supervisor can change the row limit to 50,000 rows for these users.

Hi,
How many minutes your report takes to run in full client?
