ORA 12154

I am using ORACLE 7.3 running SQL*NET 2.3.

In Supervisor I created a new connection using the following

USERNAME : @Variable(‘BOUSER’)

Password: @Variable(‘BOPASS’)

Database: mick

I go into Business Objects Rerporter module.
Choose the Universe.
Select a couple of objects
Click on Run

I get the following error message

CONNECTION ERROR

I click on DETAILS I get the following:

ORA 12154 - TNS could not resolve service name - 12154

The interesting part is when I log out of Business Objects.
Then try to connect to ORACLE through SQL*NET PLUS.
I can get to the database.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Bernie

I have found that this issue is directly linked to the tnsnames.ora file, and how the Oracle server is aliased.

You need to make sure that in your tnsnames.ora file you have a reference
to the Business Objects repository database.

hi…i am facing a somewhat similar problem. When i run a report in WEBI i get the ORA:12154 error but when i run the same report in DESKI its running fine… it doesnt throw any error. Any idea why BO is behaving this way?

Go through this
I think you have to check with what others said.

Your machine may have a different ODBC or TNSNAMES.ora entries than on the server. This might be a reason for why the report runs successfully in Desk-I, but not in Web-I.

Hi Jansi
My client is facing following error

BusinessObjects server process raised an automation exception. (Error: BOMGR 0060) IDispatch error # 109 Connection or SQL sentence error. (DA0005): [Exception: DBD, ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified State: N/A] The following data providers have not been successfully refreshed:
SQL 1 with XYZ. (DMA0007): (BSSBUWSIT0001.xxxxxx.com)
(returned by function Refreshing Document

Following is the wording of my client

“it comes to all reports, only few run smoothly, and if we restart the server it goes immediately otherwise it takes some time to get disappear…”

I have asked my client to check their system. I have also given the link which you mentioned. For that following is the reply they have given to me.

“Izhar the time this error arrives, the same report on the other server works fine … and other clients connecting to the database server works fine as well…”

Could you tell please, what might be the reason.
This problem is getting really frustrating for us. :hb:

Thanks in advance

Regards,
Izhar
