We are using BI4 SP7 on virtual Windows 8 SQL server. One of our applications is about to be hosted by the supplier which means it will become an oracle database. I have installed the oracle client middleware 11g both 32 and 64 bit onto the server and the 32 bit on my PC, which is an XP machine. When I try to create a report it appears to work in the query panel, but returns only around 750 results. When I try to run the report I get the following error.
Database error: ORA-03135: connection lost contact
Process ID: 19596374
Session ID: 89 Serial number: 16037
. (IES 10901) (WIS 10901)
I have added the following to the SQLNET.ora file, but it doesn’t make any difference.
[Look at the network logs and try and ascertain at which point the connection drops. Further to these comments, the team agrees network logs will indicate when services stopped working but not any further detail; as agreed with all the teams on our call, the network does not appear to be responsible for the problems that youre experiencing so all the systems service using are working correctly.
Ask the DBA to look at what is happening on the Oracle side. DBA have replied with: Our DBA’s have looked at the activity on the database and have confirmed that there are drop outs registered, but there is nothing to suggest that this is being forced by the RDBMS. They did adjust timeout settings anyway to see if that would help but it had no effect.
I am able to connect to the database instance from here in both Business Objects 3.1 and Cognos Impromptu and successfully query tens of thousands of records without issue, so it does suggest that the problem lies away from the Database end.
Try creating a new test universe and see if the issue occurs there?
I have created a new universe and tried this. I am getting the same error. This problem does have us stumped. Anyone got any ideas?
Suggest you remove the company name reference from your post ;).
Are you using the IDT or the UDT?
Maybe check the universe connection parameters, maybe not set right for Oracle, are they set the same as the ones in 3.1?
When you connect with Cognos / 3.1 are you using the same BO user account as in 4x?
4.0 SP7 is very old too, have you reveiwed the bug list to see if there is anything in there?
Check the firewall as well, as this can cause this issue?
I have now completed a clean uninstall and reinstalled both the 32 and 64 bit. What happens now is that whichever one I instll first does not seem to work. For example I installed the 32 bit first and then the 64. When I click on the start menu and click on the 32 bit “net manager” it is present, but nothing happens when I try to change the “net manager”. I get the egg timer and then nothing.
I tried to run a report and got an error messasge.
Database error: (CS) DBDriver failed to load: D\SAP Business Objects\SAP Business Objects Enterprise XI 4.0\dataAccess\connectionServer\drivers\lib64\dbd_oci.dll (%1 is not a valid Win 32 application.). (IES 10901) (WIS 10901)
I have now tried installing the oracle middleware as per the link sent. I am still getting the same error message. Can anyone think of anything else that I might need to do?
Is there anything regards to the environment variables I need to know?
Thank you for the middleware variables, which worked. However, we are now back to the connection lost error which I just can’t seem to resolve.
Database error: ORA-03135: connection lost contact
Process ID: 52298788
Session ID: 262 Serial number: 55451
. (IES 10901) (WIS 10901)
This has been an ongoing issue for some time for us and I don’t know what else to do to get this resolved. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Would space on a server have an effect?
Also I have noticed that once the middleware is installed we have 2 “Net managers” 1 for the 32 bit and 1 for the 64 but. When I click in the stasrt menu I can see them both, but when clicking on the 32 bit nothing happens. Anyone had this issue before?
If you mean the Oracle side, of course it could. However you say you can query that DB using 3.1.
Can you get the full results from that database using Toad / SQL plus, using the same log and PW as used in the BO connection?
What happens when you schedule in 4x Infoview, same issue?
