We’re upgrading to BusinessObjects XI3.1 SP2 FP2.1 and experiencing the following behaviour. When we open a pdf file in InfoView, the report is shown in a seperate “acrobat instance”: so in fact Acrobat Reader is opened with the document. When we exit Acrobat Reader, InfoView is empty, and only after closing this screen we see our Categories and documents again. Is this normal ?
You will be having two window opened when you open it as PDF. one is the PDF file which opened in Acrobat reader, the another one browser opens for download/open the file which is empty.
The Infoview window remain opened and you can see the reports/your Categories and documents again with out closing and you just needs to open the window again from the taskbar.
I think there is a setting somewhere that you can change - unfortunately this is a local setting on each user computer.
A few suggestions:
Open Adobe -> Edit -> Preferences -> Internet. Check the box ‘Display PDF in browser’. Note that I have Adobe Reader 9 (may be slightly different for other versions).
Check your windows file settings. Open windows explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types. Click on the file type then Advanced. This is were you associate a file extension with a program. There is also an option for some file type to ‘browse in same window’.
Also note that the behavior you mention is normal for user who do not change the settings I mention above.
