how could one trace a one shot query on a universe which is not saved ?

You may be able to find something in the Audit database.
Assuming that you’re using BOBJ 4.x, you would specifically look at sessions in the ADS_EVENT table where the the event types 1005 - Create and/or 1003 - Refresh exist for the Session_ID but where the Session_ID does not have records with the the event types 1008 - Save or 1013 - Retrieve for the same Object_ID.
However, you won’t be able to see the SQL for the report unless you have auditing set up to include the query. Best practice is to not include the query because it can dramatically increase the size of your audit database. I usually only turn on the option to save the query if I’m troubleshooting a report issue where I can’t find the problem any other way and I turn the option off immediately after I get the query I need.
