OLAP Connection for SQL Server!

Hi BOB’ers,

I am trying to create a OLAP connection in webi XI R2 for Sql Server 2005. When I select New -> OLAP Intelligence Connection, I got a screen to enter Title, Description and Type (With dropdown).

In Type dropdown box, I only see 3 types:

Hyperion Essbase (7.0, 7.1) / IBM DB2 OLAP (8.2) Enhanced
IBM DB2 OLAP Server (Legacy)
Hyperion Essbase (Legacy)

How do I create a connection for SQL Server? Do I need to do anything in CMS? Or, do I need to change something in config files?

I did a search in this forum, but didn’t find anything related.

Please help me on this. Thanks in advance.

regards,

I am having the same issue, and it looks like it might be a license issue fr me. I am testing on XIR2 SP2 with the Prod. Pack installed. This includes Voyager. BO gave me two new license keys (my old OLAP keys were not valid) and I am now in the process of creating a new Voyager Connection in the CMC. Before adding the license keys i was getting the error “You do not have a license to create new Voyager objects”. Now i am gettign the message “Please check if the MDAS server is running, or if the database client software has been installed on the MDAS server”. It looks like i am in the right direction, but not there yet.

Have you contacted BO Licensing for new keys?

I will update this posting once i add a OLAP/Voyager connection.

On the OLAP server you will need to install the MS SQL Server 2000 Pivot Table Services. This is in the Voyager documentation with the following URL:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/4/D/44DBDE61-B385-4FC2-A67D-48053B8F9FAD/ptslite.exe

After installing this I can now create Voyager connections to the sample *.cub files in CMC and OLAP connections using MS SQL AS in InfoView.

Good Luck!

On the Business Objects Server box, install the SQL Server 2005 Client tools. Once you do this and reboot the server, you will see the “Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0” which corresponds to SQL Server 2005 OLAP Engine, for SQL Server 2000, install the SQL Server client tools on the BOXI server and you would see “Microsoft OLE DB Provider for OLAP Services 8.0”. We have both links working with Voyager in our company. Hope this helps.

I tried to connect a SSAS 2005 cube to BO xi r2 (SP2), but didn’t worked.

  • I have SQLServer 2005 on a windows 2000 server
  • I have BO XI r2 SP2 (+productivity pack) installed on the same server
  • I put the Microsoft Pivot Table Services
  • I put Analysis Services 9.0 OLE DB Provider

But when I try to create a new OLAP Connection in Infoview, I can’t find any “Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0”

So, is it really possible to connect SSAS 2005 that way ?
What’s wrong ? did I forget something ?

Apparently, I was wrong. I thought I had SQL 2005 Analysis Services connection visible within the Universe Designer and that does not seem to be the case. Anyone who has converted a SQL 2005 OLAP cube into a XI R2 Universe? Is this an option that will work in 3.0? Sorry for the confusion and appreciate any feedback.

I didn’t know XIr2 supported 2005, although I know 3.0 does…:).

Hello Experts,
I have BOXI 3.0 and MSAS2000 on a machine. I installed SQL Server Express 2008 and analysis services 10.0 OLEDB Provider in the same machine.
When I try to create Voyager connection on CMC, I see only Microsoft OLE DB Provider for OLAP Services 8.0 only.
What should I do to get 10.0 provider in the dropdown.

I do not believe SQL Server 2008 OLAP is supported by BOXI v3.0.

Correct - 3.1 onwards…

Hello Experts,
Do you mean, BOXI 3.0 Don’t support OLEDB Provider for OLAP Services 10.0, however BOXI 3.1 supports it?
