With 5i, BO recommended no more than 4 CPU’s per box for either Windows or Unix. I’ve spent most of today trying to find out if that has changed for e6. Does anyone have any word on this? Is it still 4 per box max, or can we go higher?
Was it a recommendation? I know it was a license restriction. A “server” license was not good for any more than a 4 CPU box. I had one client that had an 8 CPU box, so they were obligated to purchase two server licenses to run Webi on that box.
But I don’t ever remember seeing a note about not recommending more than 4…
Hmmm, good question. I have it as a hand written note in an old deployment guide. Your experience tells me that it was a recommendation or license restriction only. Next week, we start a deployment on a machine with 12 processors. Thanks.
In older version, it didn’t really matter how many processors you had, there seemed to be a processing problem with more than 19 BusObj.exes. But that was fixed and you can do much better now.
If a customer has user-based pricing, they can use as many CPUs as they want.
The 12 processor stuff is going to be interesting. To my knowledge, there are not any sizing guidelines out yet for V6. So, it’s hard to guess how many concurrent processes you can have per CPU.
