what you mean by XI?
can you explain more.
Rameshkumark (BOB member since 2002-08-29)
The latest version of BO. BO is coining it as Business Objects XI (roman numerals for 11). Wondering if anyone is using it yet.
JTAMBLYN (BOB member since 2003-05-28)
Given that XI (BO 11) has not been released, there wonāt be many people using it. Also, given that XI is not targeted towards BO Classic customers, weāre not really in a hurry to add the forum.
BO XI is really the next generation of Crystal with the addition of WebIntelligence. It has no BO full-client nor the ability to refresh a BO client report.
BO 12 is the release for everyone.
Iāll make sure the moderators discuss whether or not to proceed with an XI forum.

I have been playing with the beta version for a few weeks and am quite impressed. I havenāt seen any forums specifically for it yet ⦠Yetā¦

I believe there should be a forum, it is relative to any Webi customers. There is, and will be a need for this forum given how new the product is.

Itās really worth a look. As BO is gonna have a Crystal background from now on. Start lookign at it early
Grizzly-Law (BOB member since 2004-07-01)
Iām in it now.

I have already had many people (existing BO and Crystal users) ask about BO XI. I think a new forum is worthwhile.

Once BO XI is released, we will review setting up a specific forum for it. In a typical beta program participants must sign to a non-disclosure agreement, which means there really should not be much discussion until the release.

I agree. Although it is unlikely that many existing Business Objects customers will find a compelling reason to migrate to XI, all new customers will be installing it. A separate forum will be useful for keeping 6.5.x issues separate from XI issues.
Nemesis (BOB member since 2004-06-09)
Iām not sure that I follow that āall new customersā will be installing it. BusinessObjects is still listed on the web site.
Dave Rathbun (BOB member since 2002-06-06)
It will just come down to money and BO will cut the price to gain momentum. Basically the question is will the customer pay for Crystal and Webi. Before the sales pitch was bo fc and webi will do all and you get it for one price. But at the end of the day bo will cut the price on Crystal and webi to get the install of XI, 100% certanty.
So good bye BO classic.

The general feeling is that BO will not allow reps to sell V6.x now that XI is available.
Steve Krandel (BOB member since 2002-06-25)
Even if you arenāt looking for web functionality?
Dave Rathbun (BOB member since 2002-06-06)
Yes. If youāre not looking for WEBI functionality, you will be sold Crystal Reports. In version XI, Crystal Reports can use a universe as a data source - though if youāve tried it you will probably have come across the little āproblemā that Crystal doesnāt have any functionality to deal with multiple select statements issed by a cross context query. So god knows what weāre going to about matching client expectations to the sales spin.
Regarding your previous post, BO is still on the web-site for existing customers who wish to upgrade to more recent versiosn.
Nemesis (BOB member since 2004-06-09)
I think they will be hard pushed to force people to use / migrate to BO 11. I have seen a few demos of it and it definitely more Crystal than BO.
My client is a big customer of theirs and although we were given a demo, the rep said they did not expect many customers to make the switch, due to the limited functionality - for existing BO clients.
Roll on version 12 - providing it is not as buggy as 6a 8)

Lets be clear, what happens to new clients can be very different from what happens to old clients. New clients will generally go with the sales spielā¦old clients have the experience to know what they do and do not need. What is the existing user base? Something like 26,000 companiesā¦so even if every new client goes down the XI route there is an awful lot of us who can make their own informed decisions. Somewhere else it was mentioned that full client could still be around in 2008. So donāt panic!
Nick Daniels (BOB member since 2002-08-15)
I think you have hit the nail on the head Nick 8) .
A while ago there were rumours that BO was dropping the full client and going with full web intergration. I think that the existing user base probably had a lot to do with changing this⦠my 2pās worthā¦
Mak 1 (BOB member since 2005-01-06)
Agreed, but lets talk about why. There are so many users, because the product provides the needed functionality. As of now, there is nothing else in the combined product line to replace it. Crystal is targeted for enterprise (routine, pixel perfect) reporting. Webi is targeted for query, reporting, and analysis, but doesnāt match the functionality of full client. Until that changes, full client is likely to remain.
