New BO roles --- Need advice

I need some advice and input from this group.
I have been doing BO development for over 15 years now.
With current company I was hired as a BO developer about 3 years ago. 3 months ago they moved me to another team where not too much development is done. It is mainly for administration for data.
I have been asked to be become the SME for BO Administration. There will be no training provide so I am on my own to be the SME in 3 months.

I don’t want to be setup for failure so what do you guys advice.

What steps should I take to be successfull in the new role. I actually don’t even have the clear understand of what is actually expected of me.

  • Should I go ahead and enroll in the SAP Administration course with my own money and get that out of the way.
  • Should I ask the management to provide me the clear guidance as to what is expected of me in the new role?
  • Should I just find another job?
  • Just throwing these questions that came to my mind. But just needs some directions.

It depends on how much knowledge you have built up during your 15 years of SAP BO development.

Functional administration doesn’t have to be difficult if you are familiar with the different concepts and tools. Technical administration is another topic, for this, you also need knowledge of the components and technical architecture.

For this reason, SAP has split the training into 3 parts:
BOE310 → Functional Administration
BOE320 → Technical Administration
BOE330 → Setup, Size and determine the technical components needed.

Online there is also a pretty good training available:

This is very informative. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
I will definitely look into it.

I’m thinking about writing an SAP Community article along these lines. If you’re interested in sharing more about your situation, send me an email.
