MYSQL and SQL Server 2008 SE

Hi,

We are currently doing a migration from BO v6.1b to BOXI3.1

We will do the first phase of migration in a staging area. By this I mean,

  • We have got a single server which has got BOXI3.1 enterprise installed.
  • We will then use the Import Wizard to do the migration from v6.1b to XI3.1.
  • Once migrated to staging XI3.1, we will do all our report/universe testing on this server.
  • We will then migrate from staging XI3.1 to our Test XI3.1 (which is a seperate H/W environment)

My question is - In our staging area, CMS database is on MYSQL whereas in the test environment, it will be SQL Sever 2008 SE. So, when we migrate from staging XI3.1 to Test XI3.1, could there be any potential issues becauase CMS databases are on different database platforms?

Many Thanks,

You shouldn’t have any problems at all importing content from your staging environment to Test environment. The Import Wizard tool connects to the CMS servers and doesn’t directly communicate with the system databases themselves unlike the process from moving BO Classic to XI.

Thanks Andy for the assurance.

Another slightly different question,

Most of our current BCA scheduled jobs create output files in multiple formats (HTML, Excel, PDF, Text etc.) in network locations (destination drive). We are going to rebuild the schedules in XI.

Now, in XI, I couldn’t schedule a report to output in multiple formats. I.e. for each format, I have to create a new scheduled job in XI. We have over 300 scheduled jobs on BCA. As these schedules create output in multiple formats, on an average two format per report, we will have to rebuild these in XI as 300 x 2 = 600 jobs. Is there an easy way to schedule a report in multiple formats without having to manually create one per format?

Any idea?

Yeah, XI doesn’t support scheduling to multiple formats and destinations with the regular scheduler.

Have a look at using the Publications feature as that supports outputting to multiple formats on a scheduled basis.
