Multisource Universe Vs. Multiple Data Providers

Hello,

Can anyone please explain why we need ‘multisource universe’ feature when two universes can be built on two different relational databses and then used at the report level by merging on the common dimension?

Specifically I am looking for the gains of ‘multisource universe’ over ‘multiple data providers’.

Thanks
Antara

Not providing a straight answer, but:
Multi-Source unX (msu) essentially are virtual data marts with all the drawbacks of “virtual”.
Nevertheless merging multiple data providers requires more knowledge from the end-user than using an msu unX.

In general, I do advise against using unX, because of all the possible performance issues. Msu unX do involve the data federator engine by the way, which is part of SAP BI 4.x

Msu = multi-source universe

Linking or merging of 2 universes are not possible with UNX when compared with UNV. What I think for merging of universes UNv is the best in 4.0 or 4.1

If multisource universe is used:
– Easy for the end-user to generate reports. (Simple DRAG and DROP).
– Less maintenance headache.
