Hello all.
I am having to move an entire BI 4 (SP04) installation to a new server. This server has 2000 reports, 800 scheduled jobs and 200 users so it is of a reasonable size. The new server has had BI4.1 (SP1) installed on it. The new server will alos be pointing to a new, upgraded SQL server as its data source.
I have attempted to run the Upgrade Management Tool between the new and old server but the UMT complained about the source (old server) being an incorrect version.
I am thinking I have 2 possible options.
Upgrade old server to 4.1(SP1) and then just copy over the Databases and file stores to the new server - not a favoured option due to the servers being located in 2 different countries
Export server 1 information into BIAR, copy these to server 2 and restore and hope that everything works.
Are there other options for doing this? Any suggestions will be most welcome.
You can try to bypass the version check in the UMT to allow you to continue to use the UMT to move content from 4.0 to 4.1. More info on that here. I have done this and it works.
The Promotion Manager is straight garbage for this type of scenario. It’s complicated, buggy, unreliable, and incapable of moving large numbers of objects. SAP even recommends that you only use it to move 100 or less objects at a time (Business Intelligence Platform Administrator Guide p. 534 for 4.1 Support Package 1).
