We are currently providing employees who request access to our data
warehouse a Business Objects license. Since we are running out of
licenses, we would like to identify users who currently have licenses
and are not actively using them.
Has anyone found an approach for monitoring Business Objects usage?
If so, what kind of information are you tracking and how are you doing
it? What kind of limitations have you found when monitoring usage?
Thanks-

Nancy,
There is a BusinessObjects script that I have created that is located on Integra Solutions web site. It is at WWW.ISLINK.COM. In the zip is a file that details some of the problems trying to monitor activity with the features currently available in BusinessObjects. Since there are limited events that are tracked, not all usage is tracked, but it gets most of it. If you are looking at just tracking who is logging on then, there are only a couple of instances that will be missed. The first is if you start BusinessObjects from the Supervisor or the Designer module. I believe there is also a gap if you start BusinessObjects with a script. So, depending on the situation, you may be able to get what you need. Also, version 5 is suppose to have usage tracking integrated into the product.
