Has anyone come up with a method to be able to minimize the Business Objects window while a query is running? It would seem that this would
be a standard feature of the software, since it is Win95-based.
Here Here! While our on-line queries run your whole machine slows to a virtual crawl and trying to multitask is an absolute nightmare… has anybody else suffered from this and does anybody know whether it will ever be any different?
Cheers!

Hiya list,

This is only the case for multi-threaded applications. Some are, some are not (BO, Eudora, …)
As a partial solution, run BO in ‘normal’ mode, i.e. not maximized, so that you can still access your desktop icons. I have put my desktop icons all around the screen, and I run those non-threaded applications not maximized, so that I can still click on my icons when the app is running. If you are running win 95 and IE4, you may simply ctrl-esc and then click on the ‘desktop’ icon on the task bar.
Hope this helps

As someone previously said, if you set your Bus Objects window to adjustable first, you can still see the icons around it. Another solution is to use a third-party software/shareware like “Deskmenu.exe” which puts an icon in the little TSR box on the right-side of your Start bar. When you click it, it brings up a listing of all the currently-defined icons on your desktop, which you can then execute. You can obtain this from the internet or contact me and I’ll send you a copy. You can get to any shortcut including those on the desktop in your 95 or NT explorer, so you should be able to start any application even though BusinessObjects is not minimized.

I’ve always been able to minimize BusinessObjects while a query is running by doing the following:
- Make sure that my DB connection is of type Asynchronous
- To minimize BusObj. after I issue a query I just right mouse click
on the system tray and choose “Minimize All Windows”.
This has always worked for me on Windows95. However sometimes I’ve had problems with WindowsNT Workstation.
Hope this helps.

In a message dated 98-06-16 18:46:06 EDT, you write:
The obvious
problem is that, if another application is on the desktop but not on the start menu it has to be started prior to execution of a long running query or it is not accessible. JUST WONDERING!
You can use Windows Explorer (which is likely to be on the Start menu) and navigate to the WINDOWS\DESKTOP directory. If you program is actually stored on the desktop, then you will find it there. If the desktop is really a link, then you may need to navigate to a different directory.
Not a solution, but an alternative!

One more solution for those with Windows 95/NT. If you have fully installed Internet Explorer 4.0. Then you should be able to close any window. IE4 will add an icon on the task bar which closes all Windows(multi-threaded or not). It is one of those enhancement things we all desire and not always get.

I can even minimize using the normal method. My cursor isn’t an arrow, but I can still activate the minimize icon. Just use the top left corner of your “busy” icon.
