No, its not supported as of now.

Migration to BO 4.0 is possible from only BO XI R2 (and onwards).

Is it?

I am not sure what my client is planning to do then. ( client said tht they are planning for migration from 6.5.4 to BO 4.0 ).

 You can only migrate to BO 4.0 from BO XI R2 SP2 and above.

Let’s see how happy will your Clients be on knowing this

Sounds like they will have to have a 2 phased migration. To be frank, as 4.0 has not been released yet, this may, actually, be the best option anyway. It may make the eventual migration to 4.0 more successful, especially if there are a lot of full clinet reports to be taken care of…

I will agree with Mak 1’s approach.

You could analyze the requirements and see whether they need anything apart from what XI R3.x has to offer. They may very well decide to migrate to XI R3.x. R3 is a pretty stable version as well.

Hello… I found out that we are actually gona carry two phases of migration.

First V6 → XI platform and from XI platform to BI 4.0

I wonder this migration is the first of this kind.

I will be keep posting if there are any interesting scenarios in this MIGRATION process.

Its absolutely normal to go for a two phase Migration. A lot of people I know who are with XI R2 SP1 are planning to upgrade to SP2, before going for a migration to 4.0. It all depends upon the need and your vision/long term goal.

Keep us updated ! :+1:

BO`s hard line on this is…

6.5, BOE XI R1 and CE 9 or 10 have to be migrated to R2 or R3 and then migrated to R4.

Welcome back Andy,

Hows tricks ?

This doesn’t overly surprise me as the architecture is so different. They may, eventually, enable a direct migration, but, I doubt its top of thier to do list.

Cheers,

Mark.

OT

Architecture doesn`t look too widely different to me really. Hell, even the app registration for the CMS still references the seagate info APS :blue: theres codebase in there going back to 1996.

Few more servers for doing a few more things, no shockers.

What I like is the fact that they have blatantly mashed Business View Manager with Designer and it does some really nice ‘help out the poor developer’ tricks in it…

Anyway, hopefully no one should be on those versions of BO now anyway, given the ‘incentivisations’ SAP have done over the past year. Although I did a BO 6.5 to Edge 3.1 early this year so you never know!

I was talking about BO 6.5 here.
If you originally come from a Crystal background, like yourself, I would agree :).

I know of plenty, especially in the investment banks, with lots of macro nonsense. You would be surprised how much is out there!

Hi Folks,

Very recently I worked for client who were having three different version, 5.1.7, 6.5 and XI R1, we did migration to XI R3.1for them. We carried out migration in two phase. 1st to XI R2 and then to XI R3.1. This pretty straight approach, am not sure if it could be possible to migrate direct to XI R3.x or above. And there we face lots of rework in understanding macros and their functionalities associated in Desk-I reports.

Upendra, I am not sure if you are planning migration to BO XI R4 or this is to move to SAP BI 4.0. What exactly you are migrating to?
