Migration from 5.1.2 to BOXI3.1

Hi all members,

My client has a version 5.1.2 and they want to migrate to BOXI3.1. To achieve this do we have to do dual migration? i.e.

First from 5.1.2 ---->middle version like 6.5--------> BOXI3.1

Or should we develop the whole universe and and reports from scratch.

can we open the 5.1.2 universe and ‘rep’ reports in BOXI3.1 by double click. Will this get open and work.

for ‘.rep’ reports open them in BOXI3.1 by double click and save them and then convert them to WEBi reports through “report conversion tool”

And for universe, open the universe in BOXI3.1 by double click, make the same connection as like in 5.1.2 for the same source system, save it and then export it.

Backend is on “oracle 10g”

Will the above steps work, kindly any member guide me here.

you will no doubt have to migrate in steps. first patch all you have to 5.1.7 then 6.5 latest release. next XI, straight to R2. SAPBO are very helpful when it comes to migrations or upgrades. you can trust the conversion tool to a degrade, but nothing is as good as…

This path would be better as the calculation engine was changed in 5.1.4.

Makes no sense, leverage the universes and reports you already have.

This “might” work, but the recommended route is the 5.1.2 → 6.5 → XI 3.1. Please note that it makes no sense to go to XI R2, go directly to XI 3.1. By the way, what do you mean by “double click”?

Exactly, you will find the end result far more successful… :yesnod:, that is why also I would recommend the 6.5, intermediate step .

This would make no sense at all. You are likely to face some issues, but fixing these will be quicker than recreating, IMO.

I think he means double clicking the file itself, after saving as for all new users, zack…:).
Personally, I would use the migration tool, rather than any manual work arounds, especially when moving things created in such an early version.

Mak is right, by double click I mean.

Install BOXI3.1 on a separate system then copy the “.UNV” and “.rep” file from a 5.1.2 system and paste it on the system where BOXI3.1 is installed and then try to open them.

Create the same universe connection like 5.1.2 for BOXI3.1

Through this will the universe will work properly.

Does any one had experience that?

AND

Same approach for “.rep” deski report copy from 5.1.2 system and then paste them on BOXI3.1 system and by double click open then in Desktop Intelligence, run the “Report Conversion Tool” to make it webi report.

Hope my question is much clear now.

The answers were quite clear as well. First upgrade to 6.5 then use Import Wizard to to migrate your contents over to XI 3.1. Does that answer your question?

Again - to be safe, use the path, provided by zack and use the migration wizard.

I would advise against doing this manually, in the way you described…:).
