migrating Crystal reports 8/9/10 to CR XI

Hi,

I have searched this forum for this topic, and I came to know we can use DataSource Migration wizard, Publishing wizard, Import Wizard for migrating Crystal reports 8/9/10 to CR XI.

Can anybody tell me what is the diff. between these 3 while migrating, which we should consider…?

any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Are you talking about just upgrading the reports to Crystal Reports XI or publishing them to BOEXIR2?

I want to convert crystal reports from lower versions to CR XI.

Just open the report in the new XI version - when you attempt to save, it will tell you it’s an older version and do you want to update to the new version - answer OK - that’s it.

thank you for the reply.
when I want to convert reports in Bulk… then what is the procedure?
In the normal practice, don’t we use the above mentioned tools for conversion??

If you existing crystal version is 10 then you can use import wizard of XI to migrate your crystal reports from 10 to XI. very simple and fastest way to do it.

Thanks for the reply.
I have seen in this forum, some guys told that we can use Datasource Migration Wizard to convert Crystal reports from lower versions to CR XI.
Can we use both Import wizard as well as Datasource Migration wizard…
Is there any difference between them? which one is preferable?

You are getting some conflicting advice here.
The Datascoure Migration Wizard is for migrating dictionaries, queries, or Infoviews to the Repository in BOEXI. Do any of your reports use any of these as their datasource? If not then this tool will be of no use to you.

The Publishing Wizard will publish reports stores on a file store somewhere to BOEXI.]

The Import Wixard will import report from one verson CE or BOEXI to another version of BOEXI.

The big queation is WHAT are you trying to do???
You stated earlier you wanted to just upgrade your report files. Then opening them in XI and saving is your only option. Or write a custom application using the SDK documentation to automate the process.

Thanks for the reply.
I want to upgrade my Crystal reports (version 8) to Crystal XI. Can I use Import Wizard?
I have few reports in CR version 10 which needs to be converted into CR XI…
Here also can I use import wizard?

You have mentioned that We migrate Dictionaries, queries, and Infoviews using Datasource Migration Wizard.
Queries means, Complex sql queries (CR based SQL) am I right?
Can you get me any idea about Dictionaries and Infoviews…

Any help will be highly appreciated…

Thanks in Advance

The company for which I am working are planning on migration/upgrading from Crystal 9 to Crystal XI.

This includes, upgrading all objects(reports, etc.) users, groups, schedule, history etc.

Business objects website provide superficial information on this.

I would like to get anser from someone who has done such a migration/upgrading, I greatly appreciate if you could share their experience with such a process.

Thank You.

Again the Import Wizard is only for Importing from one Business Ojects Enterprise system to another.

As you have only stated that you have Crystal Reports the Import Wizard is not an option for you.

The migration/upgrading is from Crystal Enterprise 9 to Crystal XI [BOXI].
I would like to know more about the following option.
“Migration” – Copy the CMS database using the CCM tool

If one uses the above option, what all things (reports, users, groups etc… sort of eveything) get migrated to BOXI?

What are the issues encountered?

Thank you.

We are trying to do exactly this.
I am wondering what is envolved in migrating from Crystal 9 to XI not sure if XI is automatically Crystal XI enterprise or if there is a difference with Crystal XI ? My main question is what is envolved in doing the migration and how to migrate the repository ?

Too many questions here - lets clear up.

If you have Crystal Reports Designer ONLY - the way to migrate the reports is to open them in Crystal XI report designer, and save them. I wrote a bulk upgrade tool a few years ago, but that only did up to v9. There might be another tool out there that does the same or write your own.

If you are migrating Crystal Reports HOSTED in Crystal Enterprise 8,8.5,9,10 and are migrating to BOXI, Crystal Reports Server XI or BO Edge then you can use the import wizard.

Hope that clarifies.

Hi all,

I’m planning to install Crystall XI Server and migrate all content from our existing Crystal 10 server using import wizard.

But I’m wondering if i could take a different approach. I was thinking to take a backup of my existing CMS with Cystal 10 and point to it the newly installed Crystal Server XI to this backup CMS database and then add the File system. Will all crystal 10 reports get automaticly updated when they are open into the new Cystal Server XI.

steps

Install Crystal XI.
Backup CMS database for Cystal 10 and File store.
Point new install Crystal XI to the backup Crystal 10 CMS database.
Point new install Crystal XI to backup File Store.
Update report using Crystal XI (open and save old Crystal 10 reports).

Thank you in advance for your help.

Please do not do what you are suggesting - it will NOT work - the databse schemas are different from CE10 to BOEXIR2.
Refer to andyskinner’s post it tell the ways to accomplish this.
