Most problems with reading Excel is that there are protected sheets, columns etc. Or freezed panes. Or filters etc.
So make your sheet as simple as possible and try it again.
Or test it with a very plain sheet first.

I don’t think it is a privilege error!!!
How did you installed? Office first and then DS or the other way round?
And, did you restarted the server after the installation?

Office is not a requirement for reading excel files. Unless an install of office confuses BODS?

The same error for any type of sheet.
And the install order doesn’t matter either. Office was installed first. But the error hasn’t gone away after a reinstall of Office and of the Microsoft Access DataBase Engine. Re-boot was mandatory after the latter install. Didn’t help.

This is what I read in Software Dependencies of Installation Guide.
Microsoft Access Database Engine
The 64-bit Designer and Job Server cannot coexist with Microsoft Office products earlier than Microsoft
Office 2010.
• Windows 64-bit server or client installation
To use Microsoft Excel functionality in Data Services, manual steps are required if the installer is
not able to install Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable on the 64-bit platform. If
the Access Database Engine 2010 cannot be installed due to the presence of earlier versions of
Microsoft Office, you will see the following warning message:
“A 32-bit Microsoft Office product is installed on this machine. Data Services requires the 64-bit
Microsoft Access database engine to use the Excel data format as a reader or loader. Please uninstall
the 32-bit Microsoft Office component.”
The warning message is issued because earlier versions (pre-2010) of Microsoft Office software
are 32-bit and incompatible with the Access Database Engine 2010 on the Windows 64-bit platform.
If you need to use the Microsoft Excel functionality in Data Services, perform one of the following
two options after installation:
• Option 1:
Uninstall Microsoft Office.
Install the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 redistributable from the Data Services
installed location. By default, the installation program is located at <LINK_DIR>/ext/mi
crosoft/AccessDatabaseEngine_X64.exe.
• Option 2:
Upgrade Microsoft Office to Microsoft Office 2010 64-bit.

Ah I see… thanks for that
With a default install of BODS without any Office install it works fine as the Access engine comes with the BODS install.
